DAY 1: NERJA
Welcome to Spain!
Known as the “Jewel of the Costa del Sol”, Nerja’s whitewashed houses, shimmering waters, and Andalusian culture create the ideal setting to start your Spanish getaway.
After checking in to your hotel, explore your surroundings with a walk through the narrow winding streets of the old town, stroll the promenade of the Balcon de Europa, and visit local restaurants for tapas and with some luck, Flamenco dancing & live music!
DAY 2: NERJA
Today explore the famous Nerja Caves!
Walk, take a taxi or hop onto the tourist train to these magnificent caves that boast the world’s largest stalagmite, a 32- metre high column measuring 13 x 7 metres at its base. This huge network of underground caverns stretches nearly 5 kilometers so take your time exploring this natural wonder.
Complete your day with a self-guided Tapas Run! Wander the streets and savour the local cuisine in the charming little bars where the emphasis is on the scrumptious fare! Check for current route suggestions and themes based on your trip dates.
DAY 3: NERJA
Enjoy today at your leisure.
We recommend stopping into the 17th century Church of El Salvador, the Gardens of Capistrano Playa, or relaxing and soaking up the sun on Calahonda or Burriana Beach.
DAY 4: A DAY IN ALHAMBRA
Your shuttle will pick you up this morning for your day trip to Granada where you’ll tour the remarkable Alhambra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Set on a plateau overlooking Granada, this complex is part palace, part fort and part lesson in medieval architecture. The Alhambra has a long and enchanted history which will leave you spellbound.
DAY 5: NERJA
After the sophistication of Alhambra, today you’ll get off the beaten track and into the countryside.
This 4 x 4 tour will take you to the Parque Natural Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama, behind the Nerja caves. Next, you’ll go to El Pinarillo a rest area, and follow with a visit to the Fuente del Esparto. Plenty of stops for photos and a lunch in a local village before heading back to Nerja for the evening.
DAY 6: NERJA
This is your last day in this great town so spend the day as you choose. Feel free to set your own agenda or we can offer some ideas.
DAY 7: NERJA TO BENAHAVIS
This morning your shuttle will transport you from Nerja to Benahavis, the culinary centre of Costa del Sol!
This beautiful town is surrounded by natural parkland and is only 7km from the coast and many beaches. While in Benahavis, at your leisure visit the Castle of Montemayor which was built in the 11th century to protect the Nazarine kingdom of Granada during the Moorish rebellions. We also suggest a stop at Lilis Bar & Tapas, and the Bodegon Wine Gallery, the perfect place to taste the region’s wines as well as others from all over Spain. Local nibblies are also served to complement the wines.
DAY 8: A DAY IN RONDA
Only an hour away from Benahavis, lies Ronda.
Perched above a deep ravine and surrounded by lush river valleys explains why this is one of the most visited cities in southern Spain. Your driver will take you to Ronda, where you will be free to explore on your own.
Points of interest include Puente Nuevo, Ronda’s most famous landmark! This bridge was completed in 1793 and connects the old Moorish town to El Mercadillo. Follow the Camino de Los Molinos if you wish to walk down into the gorge.
Be sure to explore the Banos Arabes (Arab Baths). Built at the end of the 13th century the baths are located in the San Miguel Quarter; the old Arab quarter of Ronda.
The Plaza Duquesa de Parcent is home to the Santa Maria del Mayor church, a mix of gothic and renaissance style and worth exploring before going to the Mirador De Aldehuela and Balcon del Cono viewpoints, offering spectacular views of the gorge and surrounding countryside.
DAY 9: BENAHAVIS
Spend today at your leisure. We would highly recommend an afternoon in Estepona, less than a half an hour drive from Benahavis. The historic old town area oozes character with it’s cobblestone streets, and is home to the Castillo de San Luis, a fortress built at the end of the 15th century. Playa del Cristo is the most popular beach of Estepona if lounging by the Mediterranean is on your mind, or visit Play La Rada, the beach closest to the old town. For the archaeology buffs, a visit to Corominas Necropolis would be time well spent. This underground museum contains five tombs, displays of artifacts, and is the best stone-age burial site in the area.
DAY 10: DAY TRIP GIBRALTAR
A trip to Spain wouldn’t be complete without a day in Gibraltar.
Rich in history, Gibraltar sits on a peninsula on the southern Mediterranean coast. Upon arrival by shuttle you’ll be transported to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar via skytram! You can visit the Windsor Suspension Bridge, the Skywalk, and the Apes Den to get up close and personal with the local residents: the Barbary macaques (keep an eye on your personal belongings!).
On the walk down, you can venture into St. Michael’s Cave, a network of limestone caves full of stalagmites and stalactites. Also in Gibraltar are the Moorish Castle, O’Hara’s Battery, Europa Point, to name a few more points of interest. There’s no shortage of things to see and do here so take full advantage of this day.
DAY 11: BENAHAVIS
As your trip winds down, take this day at your own pace to enjoy the history, culture, food, drinks, shopping, and incredible fun that is Spain. Feast on tapas with fine Spanish wine before retreating to your hotel for the evening.
DAY 12: HOME
All good things must come to an end including your trip in the beautiful Costa del Sol. Meet your airport transfer and depart according to your flight schedules.
