DAY 1
Depart for Portugal based on your flight times. Safe travels everyone!
DAY 2
Welcome to Portugal! Today you will arrive in Faro then travel to Albufeira (1hr) (on own).
Once you arrive in Albufeira check into the hotel, our home for the next 3 nights.
We will meet at 6:00 pm at hotel lounge to get acquainted and walk together to our first group meal. Time for the fun to begin! Cheers to the start of a great aventura!
DAY 3
Albufeira is the largest, liveliest and most energetic of all of the resort towns that line southern Portugal’s beautiful Algarve coastline. Albufeira provides stunning beaches, a glorious climate, a vast selection of restaurants and a buzzing nightlife.
Now that you’ve rested and recovered, take some time to explore the city. From the hotel, most sites are easily walkable. Or just hit the beach!
DAY 4
Boat cruise day! See the coastline around Albufeira including stopping near Praia de Benagil an impressive cave, known as Algar de Benagil. From inside this cave you will see the blue sky through an opening in the ceiling, also known as the eye. This cave is also popular among photographers and you will likely come across photos of this cave on postcards. Visiting this cave by boat is highly recommended. If you feel adventurous, you can even swim to this cave.
DAY 5
Today we hit the road for another Algarve treasure, the town of Lagos (roughly 1 hour away). But before we get there we’re going to make a stop at Carvalho beach - A smugglers cove of old so the stories go and you can see why - if you are able to find it that is! This is a stunning, sheltered beach with a beautiful view of a stack in the sea and despite being tricky to find it is surprisingly popular. There are some great features to this beach, the entrance in is amazing and there is also a small room carved into an area to the left of the steps. On the other side of the beach steps have been made to lead around the headland that are still used by local fishermen on occasion.
Check into the hotel in Lagos, you have the rooftop pool or the beach to have a dip in if you are feeling up to it!
Meet at hotel lounge at 6:00pm for another group dinner.
DAY 6
Lagos is a historic and lively city that is situated on the beautiful Western Algarve coastline. Lagos offers visitors glorious beaches, buzzing nightlife and a charming historic centre, which has retained its traditional character and charm.
Take the day to explore this lovely town.
DAY 7
Can’t get enough of cruising the ocean discovering hidden coves and beaches? Good, because we’re at it again today. We’re going to visit the amazing Ponta da Piedade, with its fabulous caves, stunning cliffs, and secluded beaches
Return the Lagos in afternoon to relax and recover.
DAY 8
We’ve had enough of beaches now. Time to see how life really goes on in Portugal. We’re heading far to the North and inland to the tiny village of Picote.
It’s planes, trains and automobile time! We’ll bus to the airport and grab a flight from Portimao to Braganca. From there we will take some time to stretch our legs and explore a local castle and have some lunch. If you wanted to stock up on anything before we leave for Picote we will be making a stop for everyone to shop at Miranda do Duoro.
DAY 9
Wake up in the small town of Picote. Make sure you have a good shower this morning because your feet are going to up close and personal with the winemaking process. We start the morning harvesting the grapes and then…stomping them with your own feet! We will see how the wine is made and tour some of the local families wine cellars.
Make sure you wear your stretchy pants to tonight’s big meal that night with all your newfound friends. Not only is this dinner going to be amazing but you might want to be around to see how it is caught, that’s right, not cooked - caught. The plan tonight is to hunt down a wild pig and have it for dinner! This is sure to be a dinner to remember!
DAY 10
Our trip is moving into its final stages. Say goodbye to everyone in Picote. Today, we’ll make our way to Porto on the coast (3 hours). Porto is a fascinating and vibrant city that is rapidly becoming one of Western Europe’s most respected tourist destinations.
